My brief hiatus lasted a little longer than I’d planned. After my summer holidays, work was extremely busy and real life events took over.. all this led to a distinct lack of updates on both this blog an on social media in general. To all intents, I’d slipped completely off the radar.

But.. I’m back with a vengeance. I’ve got loads of cool stuff to write about and a ton of holiday snaps to share.

Keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks.

This is going to be my last post for a little while – I’ve got a few holidays coming up as well as a very busy few months at work. We all need a little break from time to time, and this is mine

What little spare time I do have, I’d like to dedicate to a number of personal projects. I’m planning on returning in September, just in time for the 2 year blog anniversary.

Via Flickr:Mirrored light bulb – taken in OK Diner on the side of the A1(M), July 2011. Taken with Hipstamatic for the iPhone.

This image was taken while sat waiting for a massive american style burger. I noticed the odd looking bulb in the overhead lamp. It was silver lined and looked unusual.

If you look closely at the image, you can just about see my reflection (with iPhone) in the bulb.

(This is a test post for submitting directly from flickr with the photo description – Its a bit of an experiment for streamlining my online photo management/blogging workflow.. Thanks, Gary)

One thing I really like about flickr is the stats logged everytime an image is viewed. This is handy as it shows exactly where the link has been visited from – this helps me gauge just how effective various social media is (twitter, facebook etc).

Another thing that I quite like is the “all time views” – this essentially shows my most viewed images since I created my account back in 2009.

What really made me chuckle was my all time number two – a product shot of a tin of beans.

It really does surprise me what people are searching for.. every other day I seem to get at least one hit on this image – either from a search within flickr itself, or from a images.google.com search.

This shot was taken back in 2009 as part of my digital photography course for a product photo assignment, and to be frank – is heavily flawed and unremarkable. I really hope that it doesn’t become my number one viewed image – if that happens I think i’ll give up photography!

Last weekend gone, we travelled down to Kent for a family event – as we shared the chore of driving, I took the chance to snap some pictures from the comfort of the passenger seat.

All six shots were taken within a mile or so of each other in two sets of three – hence the triptych. All shots were taken using Hipstamatic for the iPhone.

I found the A1(M) to be a remarkably photogenic motorway (when you compare it to the M1 or the M6). Open fields contrast strongly with Industrial and town landscapes – so there is a lot to see.

Last weekend (2nd/3rd July) Blackrod played host to its 4th Annual Scarecrow Festival. It was a great weekend of community events for all the family.

The stars of the show are the scarecrows themselves, I’d lost count this year but i’d bet there were close to a hundred scattered around the village. The weather was brilliant and the village had a carnival atmosphere.

This giant Bertie Bassett was my favorite (well second after our own entry here)

I’ve been scanning through my back catalogue of flickr images over the last few days (now up to 736 images), and i’ve discovered a few little gems that i’d totally forgotton about.

This image was taken way back in December 2009 on Chorley Old Road, Horwich. Its of the view looking over Horwich towards Wigan (approx. location here). It was originally blogged here.

It was taken using a D40 and with 18/55mm kit lens. 30 seconds at f22.

I remember it being a freezing evening, even though I was only out of the car for less than 5 minutes to grab the image, my hands had turned blue

I love reading the feedback I get for my photos on flickr, but every now and then I get a nice little surprise. One of my most recent images has been added to a gallery of images called “The Quays” on The Lowry, Salford‘s flickr page.

The image was taken using Hipstamatic on the iPhone just outside The Lowry Theatre. Its a great place to take photo’s as the architecture is very unique and photogenic.

I’m flattered to be included in the gallery, especially seeing the quality of some of the other images selected, and a little bit of exposure (no pun intended) is always nice.
